If you wish to combine multiple internal PDFs before supplying to Production choose GreenLight Export menu > Combine PDFs together
Select the PDFs and wait a few seconds. The resulting combined PDF is output to the 'GreenLight_Export' desktop folder inside a 'combined' folder inside the 'PDF' subfolder.
GreenLight Pro and Custom users automate the packaging and export of files ready for content for archiving and retrieval.
Jackets, endpapers and internal sections with a 100% GreenLight pass can be packaged for using the command GreenLight Export menu > Package Final Files.
The resulting package is output to the 'GreenLight_Export' desktop folder inside a 'PACKAGED' subfolder .
Different GreenLight Custom publishers may have different requirements
The package contains the InDesign document, an IDML file (for opening in earlier version of InDesign), and all links. Also, for internal sections, a Sales, Marketing and EPUB / See Inside PDF is exported and included in the package to make a complete set of files for archive.
Links are updated to the links in the exported package.
Once covers and jacket files have been created with a GreenLight template, choose GreenLight Export menu > Create cover JPEGs to quickly export an RGB JPEG of the front cover, back cover and spine at 1000px high for marketing use.
GreenLight Custom publishers can extend the range of outputs for their specific requirements.
JPEGs are output to the ‘GreenLight_Export’ desktop folder inside a ‘MARKETING’ subfolder.
GreenLight Pro and Custom users can create Print Ready PDFs from 100% 'greenlit' documents. For internal and jacket sections a workflow status of Final Files or Backlist is also required from GreenLight’s Book Info (GreenLight Run menu > Add / Amend Book Info). For further info please see Add/ Amend Book Info
To create the PDFs choose GreenLight Export menu > Create Print Ready PDFs then specify the page range to export and click OK. Where appropriate a choice of which layers to output is then offered for internal sections:
Exported PDFs from an internal section are named according to the book code, layer name and page number. The chosen layers and spreads are exported by InDesign using the publisher PDF Preset to the GreenLight_Export desktop folder in subfolders named with the layer name and inside a Print folder.
A single page PDF is produced for each page and each layer.
Print Ready PDFs of just the text layer can also be made from Translation files.
Jacket PDFs are exported as spreads and are named with Book Code and language. Each special finish layer is exported to a separated PDF.
PDFs produced from GreenLight from files which have the green light status are stamped with the GreenLight logo and other output production information outside the bleed area of the page. This is visual proof that supplied PDFs have come from an approved file.
A note is also added into the PDF metadata which can be checked with an Adobe Acrobat Pro PDF preflight or other systems.
GreenLight Pro and Custom Users can create Proof PDFs from any file.
PDFs for proofing can be made using GreenLight at any time. There is no requirement to have a 100% ‘greenlit’ status in order to export PDFs for proofing.
Proof PDFs are output with all printable layers and as spreads.
Choose GreenLight Export menu > Create Proof PDFs. To export all pages, click ‘Yes, all pages’.
Alternatively click ‘No, page range’ and in its dialog use dashes for consecutive pages and commas for non-consecutive pages to determine which pages are exported, then click ‘Export page range’.
The chosen spreads are exported by InDesign using the same PDF Preset that GreenLight uses for Print PDFs and are placed in the ‘GreenLight_Export’ folder on the Desktop, inside a folder named ‘Proof’.
As Proof PDFs are output as spreads only one PDF is produced for each spread and is named using the book code and the left hand page name.
Use the command GreenLight Export menu > Create Translation Files to prepare InDesign files for translators from internal section documents with a 100% GreenLight pass.
Translation files are specially prepared and packaged documents that contain only the parts of the InDesign file that the translator needs.
GreenLight automatically generates a package that contains a newly made InDesign document with the text layer and all fonts and links used on the text layer.
All graphics on the CMYK layer are reduced to one flattened and watermarked JPEG per spread which is embedded back into the InDesign file on a layer named ‘NO_TRANSLATION’.
A watermarked positional PDF or each page and an IDML file (for opening in earlier version of InDesign) is included that contains embedded flattened images and therefore no missing links or missing previews.
Translators working on the translation (or ‘TRANS’ section) files can continue to use GreenLight to check their work and to export the translated text layer to Print PDFs.
For GreenLight Custom Users the GreenLight Export menu > Run Multiple Exports command allows any or all of the GreenLight exports to be run on a single open file or across a folder containing multiple closed files. All InDesign files inside any subfolders will also be found.
If choosing to export PDFs for all pages of multiple files, GreenLight will apply the first layer choice to all documents exported.
Following the output of multiple section files from the same title, multiple PDFs can be combined together if necessary with the Combining PDFs menu command.
All exported files can be output automatically and predictably by every user.
GreenLight can be used to export proof PDFs, print PDFs, marketing and sales materials, cover graphics, translation files and archive sets – all in a standardized way.
Exported files are written to their appropriate folders within the ‘GreenLight_Export’ folder, which is created on the Desktop.
